Born in La Habana, Cuba, Mendez immigrated to Miami, FL at the age of five.
He began his work as an actor in 1996 after being cast in Televisa's Morelia. Shortly after, he joined MDA Studios where he began his education in the arts under the direction of Maitén Montenegro.
Andhy then went on to work on Univision's Sabado Gigante for over a decade.
During this time, he worked alongside Andy Garcia and Mia Maestro on HBO's For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, and starred alongside Harvey Keitel and Gael Garcia Bernal on Juan Gerard's Cuban Blood.
He is a graduate of The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, and co-creator of Beyond the Silence, a Cuban espionage novel by Tomas Fernandez-Travieso.
His passion for his Cuban roots and desire to understand both sides of the political spectrum has led him to be part of numerous projects including ASOLO Rep's Hamlet: Prince of Cuba, Senel Paz’s Strawberry & Chocolate, and Nilo Cruz's Sotto Voce.
He resides in NYC.
